Death of Jadavpur University student sparks outrage as father files Murder complaint

The tragic death of first-year student Swapnadeep Kundu, who fell from the balcony of Jadavpur University's hostel, has ignited a wave of protests and allegations. In response to the incident, Swapnadeep's father, Rama Prasad Kundu, has filed a murder complaint, alleging ragging and foul play against fellow students. The police have registered a murder case based on his complaint and initiated an investigation. 

The student's untimely demise has spurred protests, with both locals and students from Kolkata to Nadia demanding a thorough inquiry. Chants of "We Want Justice" reverberated as school and college students rallied from Bogula College to Bogula High School. Community members and students alike are urging authorities not to label Swapnadeep's death as a suicide.

Swapnadeep's death occurred after he fell from the second-floor balcony of the university hostel. Indications suggest that he was subjected to ragging, which resulted in extreme stress. The day before his death, he had expressed his desire to leave the university and return home to his mother. Tragically, his mother received news of his demise the very next day.

Allegations of ragging have intensified, with fellow students stating that Swapnadeep was humiliated and called derogatory names during the act. Some claim that he was stripped naked on the hostel terrace by seniors. These allegations have prompted a response from the governor, who met with the grieving family.
